Lavender Hill Studios was founded in 2004. It was the first atelier in the UK and focuses on the craft of traditional painting and drawing. We offer rigorous training in the traditional techniques and methods of representational art whilst giving students the opportunity to develop their own style. Professional artists and beginners apply to our full-time, foundation and short courses.
We believe art students want to receive clear, practical instruction on the principles and methods of drawing and painting.
Ann Witheridge, Nick Bashall and Scott Pohlschmidt have developed and shared their training with a new generation of figurative artists. They have evolved a unique methodology based on the teachings of European Masters.
Today, Lavender Hill Studios boasts an international following and regularly works with artists from abroad. The school is a hub of aspiring and established artists and our alumni are represented by galleries around the world. The founders and directors continue to pursue their careers as artists and regularly receive commissions.
More than an arts school…
Lavender Hill Studios has gathered a community of talented individuals who share a love of the arts. We have an ever-growing programme of cultural events from talks and performances to museum visits. We seek to spark curiosity and passion and support our artists in their professional development.
